Bright Star is a musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina during the 1920s and 1940s. The story follows Alice Murphy, a young woman who, after losing a child, embarks on a journey of love and redemption. She meets Billy Cane, a young soldier returning home from World War II, who shares a mysterious connection with her. The musical explores themes of love, loss, and the power of music to heal, and it features a score that blends bluegrass and folk elements. It received critical acclaim, winning the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Broadway musical and was nominated for several Tony Awards.

The Mountain Makins Festival, presented by Visions By Vicki, is an award-winning celebration of Appalachian culture, held annually at historic Rose Center in Morristown, Tennessee. Established in 1976, this cherished festival honors the rich traditions of the past while embracing modern interpretations of life back when. Recognized as the “Best Festival in the Southeast” in 2016 and 2019 by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association, and a four-time “Top 20 Event in the Southeast” winner, the festival offers a vibrant blend of arts, crafts, music, and cultural heritage. This years festival is held October 24, 25, and 26, 2025.
