Sherrod library "Rare Book and Map Event",
Sherrod library Presents "The Rare Book and Map Event", March 6th & 7th from 10:00-3:00 on the 4th floor of Sherrod Library in the Quillen Conference room.
This year, we decided to tie the annual rare book display to ETSU’s upcoming Global Year Scotland. Sherrod Library has a great collection of works on Scotland and Scottish history (especially during the Stuart period). We have tried to include works on various aspects of Scottish history and culture dating back to the 1500's. Since Mary Queen of Scots was such a prominent and controversial figure in Scottish history, we've included a small selection of books about her.
As part of the event, we will also have an exhibit of rare local and regional maps covering Northeast Tennessee and the Appalachian Highlands. Sherrod Library is home to almost 80,000 maps, some of which are more than 100 years old. A selection of historic maps will be on display, curated by Paul Nease, our Government Information, Law and Maps Specialist who will also be on hand to answer questions.
