Meet some of the fascinating spirits of residents who helped build Southwest Virginia and learn their stories! The first burial in Abingdon's historic Sinking Spring cemetery was in 1776, and now two Virginia governors, Revolutionary War soldiers and thousands of other interesting characters have since been laid to rest in this beautiful graveyard. Volunteers interpreters with the local historical society introduce you to them during the Virginia Highlands Festival. Small-group guided tours begin at 5 pm and continue until 7:15 pm; wear comfortable walking shoes. Fundraiser for the Historical Society of Washington County, Virginia.
