Avery County is the Fraser Fir Christmas Tree capital of the world. The Newland Christmas Tree festival starts on the 3rd weekend in October so to run the same day as The Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk, NC. Woolly Worm festival ends at 5:00pm and the Christmas Tree Festival is open until 9:00pm. There shall be 50 trees with lights lining the perimeter of the town square; members of the public can vote for their favorite tree. At the festival will be a live music stage, a magicians stage, face painting, bounce houses, stilt walkers, jugglers, fireworks and more. This festival is free and our trees will be lit through New Year's Day. The Christmas Tree going to the White House shall pass through our venue sometime in mid-November. This is the quintessential family event run by a non-profit with half the proceeds going to the Avery County Future Farmers of America.
