East Tennessee Treasure: The Creative Legacy of Ross Spears and the James Agee Project
Join us as we celebrate the life, work, and cultural contributions of Johnson City's own Ross Spears (1947-2024) on Thursday, March 27, beginning at the Reece Museum for a reception and special program (4-6 p.m.), followed by a film screening at the Bud Frank Cinema (6-8 p.m.).
The program will include a presentation about Ross Spears and his body of work, musical performances of selections from Kenton Coe's compositions, and a poetry reading and brief remarks by Dr. Jesse Graves, ETSU poet in residence and professor, Department of Literature and Language. Visitors are then welcome to walk over to the Bud Frank Theatre for a screening of Spears's documentary "AGEE."
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. This event was organized in partnership with the James Agee Film Project, the Reece Museum, the Bud Frank Cinema, and the Archives of Appalachia. The Reece Museum is a unit of the Center of Excellence for Appalachian Studies and Services, which is housed in the ETSU Department of Appalachian Studies.
