At East Tennessee State University, our organization, MSWSA or Master’s of Social Work Student Association, is involved in some very exciting fundraising this semester. At this time, we are planning and organizing a Silent Auction, to be held on February 12th. We are having a Spaghetti dinner for $5 a plate from 5 pm to 6 pm. The Silent Auction will be from 6 pm to 9 pm. Each year our organization raises money to send a group of dedicated, committed students to Nashville to attend the Social Work Day on the Hill. This trip provides an opportunity for students to advocate for a vulnerable population that needs help within our local community. It also gives the students a chance to meet with and engage our legislators in the Capital. We have also made a commitment to donate 10% of our fundraising efforts to Shepherd’s Inn, a domestic violence shelter in Elizabethton, TN. This ensures that not only do the students advocate for our local people, but they give back to the community as well.
