Natural Tunnel State Park Duffield Virginia
Virginia is for Lovers . . . of History! The 2012 Siege at the Blockhouse will take place on Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27 at Natural Tunnel State Park in Duffield Virginia. The Siege is a two-day living history event sponsored by the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association. Throughout the weekend, visitors can see and hear the stories of an eighteenth-century encampment of Kentucky-bound settlers and Native Cherokee. The highlight of Saturday’s events will be the 2:00 p.m. performance of an original play: “Stronger Than Blood,” a story of the frontier, and for the first time this year, visitors will see period blacksmithing demonstrations in the newest addition to the Blockhouse site: an 18th-century blacksmith shed. Saturday’s events begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue through Cherokee campfire stories and a night battle at dusk. On Sunday an 11:00 frontier worship service is followed by a Sunday social and the continuation of Saturday’s dramatic events. Parking for Saturday’s activities is $3 per car and light snack concessions will be available on Saturday behind the blockhouse interpretive center.
