Tri-Cities TN/VA: Few clouds, 60.8 °F
VENUE, 2nd floor, King Centre, 300 E. Main St., Downtown Johnson City, Tenn.
Who has the best pizza in Johnson City? The people will soon decide at a charity event to be held on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, from 5 to 11 p.m., to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County. Hosted by the newly-formed Young Professionals of the Tri-Cities, the event, called Pie Wars: The Clash of the Slices, will pit pizza parlors from around Johnson City against each other for a shot at claiming the title. “YP Tri is an organization for hardworking, young professionals who want to make a difference in their community,” said Pie Wars organizer and YPTri Director Samara Litvack. “We wanted to host a party for grownups to benefit the kids of the Boys and Girls Club that would be fun, unique and benefit the community. Pie Wars is it.” Attendees will judge samples of pizza from Knight’s Sports Bar, Luke’s, Main Street Pizza, Mellow Mushroom, One 12 Downtown, Pizza Inn, and Scratch Brick Oven in three scheduled rounds: cheese, pepperoni and chef’s choice. Tickets to the event give attendees a vote in each round, a beer tasting by RJ Rockers, a wine tasting, music by DJCosMoore and The Jones Boys Band, and will give attendees the chance to win a variety of door prizes donated by local businesses. A cash bar will also be available. Within the event will be two competitions: Man vs. Pizza, in which participants compete against each other in a race to finish a large pizza pie, and a bracketed cornhole tournament. Commemorative photographs by Foto Montage will also be sold. “We’ve had a tremendous show of support from not only the pizza vendors, but also from many other businesses around the city who have donated everything we need to make this event a success,” Litvack said. Thanks to this support, all event proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County. A list of all current sponsors, a full description of the event, and a schedule of pizza rounds can be found under the “notes” section of YP Tri’s Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/yptri.
