On February 28, 2011, East Tennessee State University’s Radio, TV and Film Department will have a film screening at the local theater, Real to Reel Cinemas. The screening will start at 8:30 p.m. with films showing for an hour and a Q & A session afterward. The screening, featuring only student produced films, will support the new RTVF Tom Headley Student Production Grant. The grant, started by Shara Lange, will encourage the creation of original audio, radio, television or film productions in the RTVF program. “We are really excited about this new grant. It gives us a way to help support students who want to tell their own stories...to make their own films, create their own radio and TV shows—this is one of the things we are most passionate about in our program; helping to cultivate and support students’ unique voices,” stated Lange, assistant professor and program head of RTVF. Films will cover a wide range of subjects, from ETSU Paintball to Westerns to Survival films. The film makers will be in attendance and available for questions and comments before and after the screening. Tickets are only $3 but a $10 “Friends of RTVF” ticket is also available. Real to Reel Cinemas is graciously donating all proceeds from ticket sales toward the production grant. Tickets go on sale at the theater beginning February 21. There will be a booth set up with information regarding the new production grant. A door prize raffle will also take place at the end of the night. Real to Reel Theater is located at 130 W. Springbrook Drive, Johnson City.
