The City Youth Ballet brings “Christmas in July” to its studios Saturday, July 23, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The day of dance will be highlighted at 2 p.m. with a performance of excerpts from “The Nutcracker” followed by a free dance lesson and refreshments. The CYB also hosts its fall registration throughout the day. The City Youth Ballet, a non-profit arts organization, provides classical ballet performances year-round including its popular Lollipop Series for children. The excerpts to be performed at “Christmas in July” include the “Waltz of the Flowers,” “Russian Trepak,” “Candy Cane,” a Clara dance, and a rendition of “Waltz of the Snowflakes” presented by younger dancers. The CYB is accepting donations at the door as admission to support its programs. These programs include its annual “The Nutcracker” performances plus other full-length ballets including “Cinderella” and “Dracula.” With fall registration, the CYB will enroll students in its ballet classes for all abilities, from age 3 through adult. The CYB also offers hip-hop and pilates classes. At 3:30 p.m., the CYB will host auditions for its performance corps. Dancers should wear black leotards, pink tights, and hair in a bun. Male dancers wear white t-shirt and black pants or tights. The CYB studios are located at 3501 W. Market Street., just west of Wal-Mart and next to Modern Supply.
