Jonesborough Visitor's Center
The Heritage Alliance, in partnership with the Veterans Affairs Committee, is honored to announce a rotating, permanent exhibit for the Jonesborough Washington County History Museum located in the Jonesborough Visitor’s Center. The exhibit, opening to the public on May 27, 2012, will explore the stories of service to our nation by Washington County veterans. The exhibit will focus on the 20th century through the present. Residents of Washington County are encouraged to bring their artifacts, photographs, documents and other items related to U.S. military service to the Jonesborough Visitor’s Center. Artifacts must be from U.S. military service, both during war and peace times, occurring in the 20th century through today. Due to space issues, only one artifact per veteran will be collected. Artifacts must come with a typed label including information about the veteran and conflict. Donors should be prepared to provide a “story” or fact regarding the artifact. The stories might include a memory relating to the artifact, information on its use or other item of human interest. These stories will be featured in the exhibit alongside the artifacts. This is a rotating exhibit. Artifacts will be changed out every six months. Donors will be notified in advance when their artifact will go on display. Artifacts will remain in the donors’ possession until that time. Those interested in donating will need to bring their item on collection dates for inventory and story collecting purposes. Now is the time to share your artifacts and stories of service with the wider community.
