“A Passport to the Arts in Kingsport” Third Biannual Arts Council Arts Crawl 2010 KingsportARTS, formerly Arts Council of Greater Kingsport, will host the third biannual Arts Crawl: A Passport to the Arts in Kingsport on September 30, 2010, 5PM-9PM. This unique collaboration unites artists, residents, and businesses for the purposes of increasing exposure for area artists, providing easy access to arts and entertainment for residents, and raising funds to be used to increase the awareness of the growing arts community in Kingsport. Our first Arts Crawl, September 24, 2009, was so popular we have decided to do it twice a year. The events will be on the last Thursdays of April and September. On September 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., visitors to the downtown Kingsport business district will be able to take a trip through the arts by picking up an Arts Crawl Passport under the State Theater Marquee, 155 Broad Street. The passport will include a list of, and directions to, the participating galleries and other venues: new locations this year are the Barefoot Chameleon and Carriage House, old favorites are Cindy Saadeh Fine Art Gallery, Ripperarts Studio, Kingsport Ballet’s new facility featuring the Kingsport Art Guild exhibit, Main Art Center at Downtown Kingsport Association, River Mountains Antiques & Primitives, STYLE, Suzanne Barrett Justis Fine Art Studio and Gallery, and Up Against the Wall Gallery. Besides our two new locations, another new feature will be a bus making a continuous loop past the galleries. Patrons can get on and off the bus anywhere along the route. We also plan to have artists on the street, weather permitting. Passport holders will sample a delightful array of hors d’oeuvres created by downtown restaurants while sipping on wine from a souvenir glass. Participating restaurants are: Bone Fire Smokehouse, La Campiña Mexican Grill, Korner-Copia, Babycakes Cupcakery, and Stir Fry Café. Sponsors for this event are City of Kingsport’s Cultural Arts Division, Sam’s Package Store, Absolute Communications, Cabot Creamery of Vermont and all the great downtown restaurants and galleries listed above. Tickets for the Arts Crawl are $30.00 per person in advance and $35.00 purchased the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased online at www.KingsportARTS.org. Tickets will also be available for purchase on the night of the event under the marquee at the State Theater, 155 Broad Street. For more information contact the Arts Council of Greater Kingsport at 423-392-8420. KingsportARTS is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission, as well as, the Kingsport Community Foundation (a fund of the East Tennessee Foundation), Eastman Chemical Co., the City of Kingsport’s Cultural Arts Division, and other local sponsors.
